For the third edition of the Ūmėdė Festival, I initiated a mobile library that gathered books, publications, and zines brought by the participating artists. Each participant was invited to contribute a book related to the festival’s theme and/or their own practice. 

 

The idea emerged from a small personal observation: at festivals, I have always found myself peeking into temporary pop-up bookstores. For Ūmėdė, I wanted to create a similar space that would work as an extension of artists practices presented over three–days.

 

Rather than functioning only as a collection of reading materials, the library was seen as a form of collective learning. As the books accumulated on the table, the collection slowly formed a network of ideas, references, and inspirations circulating within the festival.

 

Placed within the festival as a reading corner, the mobile library offered a quiet space for reflection amid the program’s activities. By the end of the festival, the table was full, thanks to the generosity of the participants, forming what might become the beginnings of a growing Ūmėdė library.
